Introduction of MGCIP

 A Platform for Higher Corporate Success

The Malaysia-Guangdong Chamber of Investment Promotion (MGCIP) is a non-profit organization established in year 2008 with the blessing of our local authorities and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Malaysia. In the same year, MGCIP marked a new milestone when the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Guangdong and MGCIP signed an Agreement of “Setting of the Guangdong –Malaysia Bilateral Enterprises Business Council” on the 12th of September, witnessed by Malaysia’s then Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, then Minister of International Trade and Industry YB Tan Sri Dato’ Hj. Muhyiddin Hj. Mohd Yassin, and the General Secretary of Guangdong Province, H.E. Mr Wang Yang.

 

With initiative of the MGCIP, the first Malaysia-Guangdong Bilateral Enterprise Business Council conference was successfully organised and held at Royal Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, in June 2009. The conference successfully attracted many business representatives from Malaysia and Guangdong respectively. The success of the first conference was extended to the Malaysia-Guangdong Bilateral Enterprise Business Council conference for second year running, held in Zhuhai, China, with the conference theme on cooperation in green business. MGCIP had proudly invited our Malaysia’s Minister of Housing and Local Government, YB Dato Seri Chor Chee Heung to attended to the conference. Last year, the “Malaysia – China Economic Forum” was held at Zhuhai Lakewood Golf Club, China and the response was encouraging. About 100 business representatives from Malaysia and China participated in this economic forum.

The primary objective of MGCIP is to act as an international platform to promote exchange and cooperation between Malaysian and Guangdong business communities, while playing the role of a communication hub between Malaysian and Guangdong business communities.

It also promote friendship and mutual trust, and provide a platform to discuss and resolve any challenges or disputes effectively and efficiency.

Another key objectives of MGCIP is to provide professional opinions or ideas to establish / extend your own business in Guangdong, China. Guangdong is one of the most important processing, manufacturing and export bases in China. According to provincial annual preliminary statistics, Guangdong’s GDP in 2011 reached USD 838 billion and it contributed approximately 12% of PRC’s national economic output. With its abundant resources, prosperous economy and vast market, Malaysia has been an important trading partner of China among the ASEAN countries. With a trusted and intimate relationship as foundation, the economic and trade cooperation charted great progress. In 2011, the export and import volume between Guangdong and Malaysia raised USD 23.43 billion, up 107%
from USD 11.31 billion in year 2006.

Presently, MGCIP is headed by its President, Tan Sri Lim Hock San, PSM, Managing Director of LBS Bina Group Berhad, one of the well-known developers in Malaysia. The MGCIP membership has now grown to chamber of more than 50 elite members from a wide variety of industries in Malaysia.

MGCIP’s Vision & Mission:
1. To promote the business interest of Malaysian enterprises in Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China;
2. To promote trade and mutual investment between investors from Malaysia and Guangdong Province;
3. To acquire, hold, deal with or dispose off properties for the furtherance of the Chamber’s objectives;
4. To raise funds for the activities for the Chamber or in furtherance of the Council’s objectives;
5. To promote exchange and cooperation between the Malaysian & Guangdong business communities;
6. To discuss bilateral trade and investment issues and examine the impact of current policies; and
7. To investigate difficulties encountered by enterprises in Malaysia and Guangdong, while contributing to active solution to challenges, to further promote economic cooperation and prosperity.
